Saudade
The clouds of uncertainty were inevitably heavy
and the rain seemed endless.
I thought hope, alone, would remedy the storm —
that the forgotten rays of our love
would peak through the clouds just enough
to put out the despondency.
I tried to resist the gale,
fight to stand upright
and never give up.
I tried to tell you all the things
I kept untouched and unbothered within me for so long — but time, truly, is of the essence.
Saudade.
The fibers of our past slowly detach from me
as I tuck away these sentiments
into the most tenebrous corner of my mind.
I wish to let you understand
how I was silently broken by your idea of goodbye.
You left me hanging
by the words you left unspoken
and now I’m here.
The rain has ceased, maybe just temporarily.
But at least there’s a sort of peaceful tranquility in the air.
With reluctant gratitude,
I gently lower to the ground — one knee at a time.
I bow down and embrace the stillness.
My final stance before sweet surrender.
